Hothouse Tomatoes in the Backyard

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Have you seen the price of tomatoes at the grocery store recently? They are sky high! My friends in Florida warned me winter had been hard on field grown tomatoes and we would feel it in our wallets. I grew up in northern Ohio, near Cleveland where hothouse or greenhouse tomatoes were commonly grown. That is no longer true. Now I am considering the wide array of plastic greenhouses on the market so that I can have fresh sweet tomatoes all year round. The selection, sizes, and construction materials available to the hobby gardener are amazing. (more…)

Hard Cases For Sunglasses

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Smart And Sharp Hard cases for sunglasses are much better than sunglass carrying pouches. Fall in Love With Greenhouse Gardening

Friday, October 31st, 2008

The Fall season was always a little bittersweet, as we prepared our gardens for the first real frost, and took the last harvests of tomatoes and pumpkins, squash and peppers.  It always left me wishing I had a way to garden year-round.  So when we purchased what would be our first plastic greenhouse, I was skeptical that I could get used to the idea of tending to living, growing plants in the dead of a Tennessee winter.  But as time slowly moved through the months of January and February, I still had an abundant crop of baby lettuces, herbs, and yes, even some sweet, ripe cherry tomatoes!
